Lessons and Events Calendar

Class locations: all classes are held in the Eugene area. Flatwater classes are mostly held at Fern Ridge, and moving water classes are mostly held on sections of the Willamette and McKenzie. Locations vary based on water levels and other factors.

 

 

Thursday, March 27th – Raft Rigging Clinic with Dove Miller

Join us for this dry land clinic on how to properly rig a raft! Over the course of an evening, this class will go over the importance of rigging to flip, different schools of thought, and appropriate gear. We will show plenty of examples, and of course, have a hearty question and answer session. Taught by Dove Miller, guide with twenty years experience on trips big and small.

Friday, March 28th – Overnight Rafting Clinic with Dove Miller

Join us for this dry land clinic on how to prepare for an overnight river trip. Over the course of an evening, this class will go over packing lists, appropriate gear, camp kitchens, sleeping setups, and more – yes, we will talk about toilets! Expect lots of examples, stories from experience, and of course, a robust question and answer session. Taught by Dove Miller, guide with twenty years experience on trips big and small.

Tuesday, April 8th - Kayak Outfitting Clinic with Callay Boire-Shedd

Join us for this dry land clinic on how to outfit your kayak, both whitewater and touring! Over the course of an evening, we will go over how to get a good fit, proper foot placement, backhands, shimming, flats and other tools for success. A good snug fit makes all the difference in kayaking! We will include many different examples, and have our quintessential Q and A session. Feel free to bring your kayak along! Taught by Callay Boire-Shedd, ACA Level 4 Swiftwater Rescue Instructor and kayaker extraordinaire. 

 

Saturday, April 12th and Sunday, April 13th – Two Day Rowing Course with Dove Miller

Join us for this two day, on-the-water course on how to row! Over the weekend, the class will go over reading water and identifying hazards, an overview of equipment, basics of safety and rescue skills, and the fundamentals of maneuvering a raft. Depending on participants ability levels, we can always opt for more challenge! Taught by Dove Miller, guide with twenty years experience on trips big and small. 

 

Saturday, June 7th and Sunday, June 8th - Swiftwater Rescue Two Day Course

The course covers essential skills for recreational users. Topics include accident prevention, technical rescues, and scene management. Emphasis is on personal safety and practical techniques. You'll practice handling hazards like entrapments, knots/ropes and participate in scenarios to hone your skills individually and as part of a team. No previous rescue experience required, but a good attitude is essential and comfort swimming and/or boating is a definite plus. Taught by Callay Boire-Shedd, ACA Level 4 Swiftwater Rescue Instructor.
